The Thai Roots Program is designed for children growing up outside Thailand who want to build confidence in Thai through listening, speaking, reading, writing, stories, games, activities, and meaningful conversation.
Our goal is not only to help children “learn Thai,” but to help them feel that Thai is part of their everyday life, family, identity, and connection to Thailand.
Children growing up abroad often have very different experiences with Thai.
Some understand Thai but are not yet confident speaking. Some are beginning to read and write. Others already have a strong foundation and are ready to develop more advanced language skills.
The Thai Roots Program is designed to meet children at the level that is right for them.
We focus on meaningful language use rather than memorisation alone. Children learn through stories, games, conversation, and activities connected to real life.
We also believe confidence comes before perfection. Children are encouraged to use Thai without pressure, and mistakes are treated as a natural part of learning.
Across the 10 weeks, children explore Thai through familiar and meaningful themes such as:
Me and My Thai
My Family
My Daily Life
Food and Thai Flavours
Home and Places
Friends and Feelings
Thai Culture and Manners
Stories and Imagination
My Thai World
Celebrate and Show What You Know
Each week connects to the next, creating one continuous learning journey throughout the program.
For children who are new to Thai, speak very little Thai, or want to build confidence in listening and speaking.
Lessons begin with simple everyday words, useful phrases, songs, stories, games, and visual activities that help children understand and start using Thai naturally.
For children who are ready to develop their Thai literacy skills.
Children practise reading words and sentences, build vocabulary, strengthen spelling skills, and develop their writing through themes connected to each week’s lesson.
For children who already have a stronger foundation in Thai and are ready to go further.
Lessons include richer vocabulary, reading comprehension, storytelling, writing, discussion, expressing ideas, and deeper cultural understanding.
The Thai Roots Program runs for 10 consecutive weeks, with one lesson each week.
Each lesson is approximately 60 minutes and takes place in a small group of around 6–8 children, giving every child more opportunities to speak, participate, and receive support.
Families can choose between:
Join live small-group lessons from home, with access to Thaiducation games, stories, activities, and learning resources between lessons.
Learn in person in a small-group setting through conversation, games, hands-on activities, and face-to-face interaction.
Learning continues throughout the week.
After each lesson, children can return to the Thaiducation learning platform to play games, revisit vocabulary, enjoy stories, and complete short activities connected to what they have learned.
Between-lesson practice is designed to be simple, enjoyable, and manageable for families.
Throughout the program, children learn through:
Stories • Songs • Games • Conversation • Activities • Real-Life Thai
Nong Chang joins the children as their learning friend, guiding them through stories, games, challenges, and Thai language adventures along the way.
